Default Protective Services Investigation After a Car Accident

A woman and her fiancé were in a car, with him driving. They got into an altercation that became moderately physical. The man ended up going through a traffic light, and got into an accident. He had no license, and he fled the scene, leaving the woman (who was injured in the accident) and their kids in the car. When the police came, they asked how the accident occurred. One of the children said that it happened because her parents were fighting. The police contacted Georga DCFS, which initiated a protective services investigation. She is being told that if she doesn't move out of her fiancé's home they will commence a legal action to remove the children from the home, but she doesn't have anywhere else to go. What should she do?

She should contact a domestic violence shelter to see if she can get short-term housing and if they can help her find a longer-term, stable housing arrangement.

Perhaps once the investigation is complete and a safety plan is in effect, she can convince DCFS that they should allow her to live with her fiancé, but for now they have cause to be concerned about the safety of the children.
