Post Marrying an illegal immigrant in Illinois

I have seen jose garaza's article "MARRYING AN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT IN ILLINOIS" and I have to say that I am in the same boat as he is. I live in Illinois and I have a girlfriend that lives in Michigan as well. I'm a college student and well be one at the time of marriage. She was also brought over on a tourist visa when she was four by her mother and was left here to stay with her sister. She grew up here and also finished high school. We are both under 21 as well. When looking at the reply that jose garza got I saw that they had asked him if she had proof of legal entry into the US which is called an I-94. What happens if she doesn't have it? I asked my girlfriend if her mother had it, but she told me that she doesn't, and we were wondering if there was another way we can proof legal entry into the US. My girlfriend was wondering that maybe there was a record of her in the computer system when she was brought over and didn't know if we could find out some how?

Does she have any record at all of her entry? Even just the number from her I-94? Does she have an old passport which reflects the tourist visa and entry? Anything to show that the entry was legal?

My boyfriend listed the previous post. I have contacted my mother in mexico and she states that she has nothing showing that I came to this country. In 1990 my mother and I came to the states to visit my older sister in Michigan. My mother stated that she had applied for a tourist visa for her and myself and that I had a card that allowed me to legally pass the border. My mother stated she dosn't remember but, because you have to have another tourist visa to go past a certain point into the country my mother stated that she thought that because I was a small child they had given her one with myname on it. My mother and sister decided to leave me with my sister in Michigan when my mom was crossing the border back into mexico an immigration officer had taken my border pass visa away and told me mother that she could have it back when she had me with her. My mother never went back to pick it up and tried to apply for a new one for me years later. Again she was told that she could have her visa renewed but, they would have to see me in person. My older sister stated that when she would go apply for a visa to cross the border it was always under my mother's nam and that the number on that visa never changes. Since my mother has renewed it could I be archived under that number? My mother is afraid to go ask for any archived that they might have on me. She is afraid it will cause trouble but, if my boyfriend is applying fo rme once we are married could he request that information? If not what are our other options. I came to this country on a visa where on earth could I possibly find a file on that?

I hate to say it, because I'd like you to figure this out for free, but it sounds like you need to bite the bullet and get help from an immigration lawyer.
