My question involves adoption law for the State of: Kansas
I've been searching for over a year now to find a way to "undo" a step-parent adoption. I was one of the children involved in being adopted by a step-father (at the time). Now that I'm well into my adult years, I've been seeking a way to get his name removed from my birth certificate and I've been told I need to have his right's terminated. As many other threads I've read, no one has been succesful in accomplishing getting a step-parent adoption "undone". Since I've had zero contact with the man who adopted me (for 20+ years), would it be possible to petition to court to involuntarily terminate his parental rights? Not only has he never paid any kind of child support since the day of the divorce from my mother, but there has never been any efforts made to maintain any kind of relationship. With this information, would it be possible to have his rights terminated so that I can have his name removed from my birth certificate? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Why does it matter who is on your birth certificate? You're an adult. You don't have to identify that person as your father or stepfather or anything if you don't want to. If someone asks about your dad "I don't have one" is a really easy answer.

I don't understand why people worry about removing someone as a parent off their birth certificate. It doesn't mean anything by your adult life. Is there something legal you're trying to do and you need him off your birth certificate?
