Default Should a Contractor Ask a Homeowner to Get a Permit for Construction

Why would a contractor ask a homeowner to get a permit for a window replacement job, rather than getting the permit itself? I though it was normal for contractors to get permits for the jobs that they perform. Is that a red flag?

Default Re: Should a Contractor Ask a Homeowner to Get a Permit for Construction

The possible red flag issue is that you may be dealing with an unlicensed contractor who wants to perform the work under your name as homeowner, because he's unable to obtain a permit on your behalf due to his not being properly licensed.

If you check and verify that your contractor is properly licensed to perform residential improvements of that nature, then you should ask your contractor why he wants you to pull the permit.
