Default How to Close a Deceased Person's Bank Account

If a person passes away and has no assets to speak of, save pretty much for the clothes on her back, but she has a bank account, how can her family get the money from the bank account to pay for her funeral, or at least part of it?

Default Re: How to Close a Deceased Person's Bank Account

Most states have small estate proceedings that can be used to close out an estate that has few assets. The family members should explore that option in the decedent's state and, through that process, they will be able to close the bank account.
