I am new to the forum and I'd appreciate any help I can get here.
I had my daughter out of wedlock 14 years ago and her father has never been a part of her life (his choice-we last spoke when she was 3 months old).
That's the SIMPLE part of it.
I have been trying to get a straight answer to my next question for, I kid you not, the last 13 YEARS!
What state do I file for paternity in?
Details:
He and I met while we were both in the military (US Army, Ft. Hood, TX). My daughter was conceived in same location.
My daughter was born in McComb, MS.
We, my daughter and I, currently reside in northern Louisiana.
He currently resides in Augusta,GA.
I have been told at different times that I must file to establish paternity in the state that my daughter was conceived in, but there was a short period of time that I had to go on welfare while in Louisiana, and I was told because of having filed for aid from the state of Louisiana, I would have to start whatever paperwork against him there.
I am at this point now, and, even though I am doing all right financially now, it burns me that all these years that I struggled to support my daughter, he got off scott-free when she is entitled to some of his Soc. Security, insurance, veteran's benefits, not to mention her rights as an heir of his!!
If I can get some ACCURATE information to finally get the process started, I would be sooooo grateful.
Thanks in advance.
