So I was caught taking about $11 in soda from Giant. I had taken bags and put the soda boxes into them and was ready to walk out of the store before a security guy dressed as a customer (Loss prevention I'm guessing) grabbed me and pulled me into his office. He asked whether it was my first offense, which it was, and how old I was, 18.
He said he wouldn't call the cops on me because it was my first offense. Then he asked for my drivers lisence and wrote a few things down on a peice of paper, asked for my SS and phone number (he said right away that I wouldn't get a call, but I told him my cell phone # anyway) as well. I asked whether I would get anything on my criminal record, he said no. He told me that I was still allowed to come into the store, but he would keep track of me and bust me if I attempted anything. I once again asked if anything was going to go on record besides this store, would there be any consequence besides him just having me on his "watch list" or anything of that sort, and he said no.
Now I have read a couple of similar cases, people have said that stores send a letter to your house for fees in civil demands (something along that line.) I tried to ask vague questions to the guy to ask whether I would suffer ANY consequence at all (besides feeling like a dumbass) for this, and he said no repeatedly. Should I still assume this civil demand letter? I live in Maryland, if that changes anything.
Also I would ofcourse like to add the, this was the stupidest thing I've done and I will never do it again. Honestly, it had to have been one of the most embarrasing things ever, getting taken across the store by a guy, it has me disturbed mentally.
