my girlfriend is 17, and her parents have decided to let her leave. first off how long does and emancipation usually take? she will be 18 in september. she has decided that she wants to live with her sister. is there any other way to protect whoever she stays with from legal recourse? could her parents sign something consenting not to take legal action? i read both of these web sites http://www.peoples-law.org/children/...ion%20home.htm and http://mlis.state.md.us/cgi-win/web_statutes.exe several times very thuroughly but came up with nothing on her situation. lastly, can she start the emancipation process or does that have to be done by her parents? thanks for your time and help

If the parents are allowing her to leave, then emancipation wouldn't be necessary.
