My question involves juvenile law in the State of: Texas.
A little over a month after my 17th birthday, I found out I was pregnant. The father is my boyfriend, who happens to be 23 (22 at the time I got pregnant). I've been told the age of consent in Texas is 17, but I'm wondering if that's enough for him to not get in legal trouble if he tries to claim paternity (and yes, he's definitely the father).
Both of our parents are aware of the age difference and don't particularly care. My mother initially told us that the best course of action to prevent any legal trouble is if the two of us get married, which she would sign for, but I really don't want to be seventeen and married and a mother and all that.
So my question is- is marriage the only way to avoid him getting in legal trouble when he goes to sign the birth certificate, or will we be fine since the baby was conceived after my birthday?
