Default Tenants Want Repair of Appliances They Removed From the Rental Unit

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: New York

I am renting out the apartment and tenants moved my appliances (washer and dryer) to another apartment in the building, which they own and rent out to someone else. They removed my units without my knowledge and consent. Now my tenants insist on repairs or replacement of those units.
Am I still responsible for the maintenance of the units when they were secretly removed from my apartment and being used by some other people and not my tenants?

Call the police. What they did is considered theft.

    Agree.

Call the police and report the theft. Make sure you tell the police you will cheerfully agree to cooperate with prosecution.

Give notice of termination for cause.

Evict them if they don't leave by the deadline.

Apply their deposit to the cost of replacing the stolen items.

You need to play hardball with these morons and jump down their throats with both feet or they will walk all over you as they are apparently trying to do now.

Is this the very first moment you learned that the washer and dryer had been removed? If not, when did you learn of the removal of the appliances and what did you instruct your tenants to do at that time?

Is this New York City, or somewhere else in the state? (New York City makes it more difficult to evict tenants than most (if not all) other parts of the state.)

Do you want to evict your tenants?

Holy smoke! I heard tenants in New York were gutsy but this takes the cake!
