Slapped my wife -- first time ever. She called police. They arested me and released on a small bond. Spent the night at home and made up. We have a good marriage and it was just an unfortunate incident. Have pre-trial coming up. My wife is upset because of the mess this has caused. She is desperate to drop the whole thing and has called DA twice. They say it is not up to her to drop the case. What can she do to make it go away? Should she go to the pre-trial conference and beg the DA and judge to dismiss the case? She told police that I slapped her and I confirmed it (but they did not read me my rights) and it was in our house -- nothing formal or formally recorded. We are thinking of changing our story. Will this only get the DA mad? I won't plead guilty under any circumstances, but are there things that my wife can do to make them drop it.
