Default What to Do if a Birth Certificate and Social Security Card Last Name Do Not Match

My question involves name change laws in the State of: Washington

My husband just found out that his daughter has his last name on the birth certificate but his ex got the kid social security number with her last name.
She states that does not matter and that the kid won't have any issues to get passport or anything else, is just like if she gets marry and changes her last name.

Please I just want to know if that is correct or does affect the kid or my husband in any way.

The childs name with have to be the same on their social security card and their birth certificate. Has he seen the birth certificate and social security card ? The reason I ask is because I don't think Mom was able to get the name different on the social security card. A copy of the birth certificate is required when getting a social security card. Were Mom and Dad divorced when the child was born ? If they were, how long had they been divorced ?

If Dad is listed on the birth certificate, it is possible that Mom gave the child her last name. If that is the case, then the birth certificate and social security number will have the same last name.

When a woman gets married, she has a legal document that can be used, if she wants to change her name. When someone has their name legally changed, they have to have it changed on their birth certificate before they can have it changed on their soclai security card.

Its also possible that mom gave the child her last name and got the SSN with that last name, but that later on the child's birth certificate got changed to dad's last name, but the SSN has never been changed. In that case, its necessary to get the name on the SSN changed.

They never married, that lady doesn't have his last name, he doesn't any copy of birth certificate or ssc

You don't have to change your birth certificate when you get married, just your ID and your ssc number with the proof of marriage

You did not understand what I said.

It is possible that the mother originally put the mother's last name on the birth certificate and therefore used the mother's last name to get the social security number. Its then possible that after dad's paternity was established that the birth certificate was changed to reflect his last name, but it never got changed with social security.

However, if dad has never seen the birth certificate or the social security card then how does dad know what last name is on either document?
