My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Illinois
Purchased a home in 2004. I didn't have a down payment so the lender wrote a primary loan and a secondary loan to serve as my down payment. I paid them together each month. Never missed a payment.
I Moved out of state in 2011. House was on the market for two years, no buyer. Offered a short sale to the bank, they refused. Home foreclosed upon in 2013 after two years in court. I was never contacted, never went to court, never had any dealings with the lender other than I wrote them a letter about my dilemma. I couldn't continue to make 2 house payments any longer.
The matter was closed in 2013 according to court records. Or so I thought. I was served recently by a "recovery service" which I gather is a collection agency. They are attempting to collect the second mortgage. This matter has effected my credit, of course, but I have been rebuilding it successfully. This is the ONLY blemish on my credit.
I can't find an attorney to help me with this matter. Does anyone have any advice?
