that depends on the type of judgment being garnished.....if it is for child support or taxes, then, No. If it is for a civil judgment for damages or a loan or credit debt, then, yes, a petition for protection under Chapter 7 should stop the garnishment......at least that's my experience from working with bankruptcy lawyers for over 15 years....but my most recent experience is not in consumer bankruptcy, so I'm not "current" on the new law changes.
