Default Do You Have the Right to Pay a Parking Ticket With Cash

My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: California

    Hello,

I got a parking ticket and the parking ticket enforcement is trying to force me to pay for the parking ticket with only check or money order. I insisted that I should be allowed to pay with cash. Both of those other two methods will cost me more money on top of an already extremely expensive parking ticket, which, I think is ludicrous because they are already getting free money from me. Cash says on it that "This Note is legal tender for all debts, public and private" It seems like that means I should be able to pay for the parking ticket with cash. How can I force the parking enforcement to accept cash?

    Thank you for your help.

Do you not have a checking account? If you do, I don't see how writing a check will cost you anything unless you have one of those accounts that only allows a certain number of checks a month?

If "parking ticket enforcement" means a private company or institution, they can decline a cash payment.

If it's payable through a court, you should be able to pay the ticket at the courthouse in cash, as most courts are set up with a cashier's office.

Is this a case of you wanting to pay cash, but pay it with pennies?

And, as asked by another, who are you trying to pay cash to?

My college has a police station. Inside the police station is one window designated for police related incidents and another window for parking enforcement, livescan and something else I forget. This is not a court. I am not sure if the parking enforcement window is a part of the the police station, however, they are in the same building. I talked to this one guy through the parking enforcement window that is the supervisor. I am pretty sure he is a cop although I never asked. They told me if I don't pay it doubles and goes to the DMV. Does that mean they are connected to the cops? They also told me once when I was arguing about some policy they told me that the policy was set like that because of a contract with my school. Maybe that means they are private. Either way it is ridiculous that they are already robbing me and they want to double up on theft by also indirectly charging me the price of making a money order. They should be happy that they are getting free money from me.

This is not about paying me with pennies. They are already robbing me of a lot of money with this absurd ticket. Why should I have to pay even more money to make a money order just to make them happy? They are already getting a lot of free money from me they should be happy with cash.

I'm curious what college this might be. All the colleges I checked online said that you can pay cash in person at the parking agency (police department or other entity on campus).

But, if for some strange reason they won't accept cash, well, you will either have to pay in one of the accepted forms, or risk the matter getting sent to the DMV. If sent to the DMV it places a lien on your vehicle for the fine and penalties. So, when you go to pay your registration or sell/transfer the car, you'd have to pay the fine and more!

This is El Camino College. I just do not understand how that makes sense. It just feels like what they are doing should be illegal and seems like blatant violation of my rights and like they are using their position of power to force me to comply.

I checked the El Camino College site and can't find anything about paying traffic cites in person. I do see that prior to an appeal a check or money order must be posted.

Now, while it may not be legal for them NOT to accept cash payment, that appears to be the rule (check or money order). And unless you are prepared to take the matter to court, you may want to cut a check.
