Today, I went to my nearest district court to pick up a clearance letter because since my motor vehicle offenses barred me from retaking my drivers permit and license. I was given a referral slip from the DMV and instructions on how to check my current situation. I did what I was told and asked if I could come in and request for a clearance letter, the woman whom I was talking to requested a piece of info. (SSN) which I assume she checked on after putting me on hold. After less than a few minutes she jumps back on and says your ok and to come in and pick up the Clearance letter. Now, I am being assisted by the woman behind the counter, I hand over the referral slip thinking about how good this day has been, only to have her comment "your adult record looks good, but you do have a juvenile record. " It took a few seconds for me to realize that I had one run in with the law when I was just a sophomore in high school. That was in 2004 and all this time I was thinking that if I turned 18 I'd have this problem done away with. I told her why wasn't it expunged, she then said that their was a Bench warrant issued and I needed to pay off the bill and set a court date to settle the dispute. I wasn't angry at all because it was my fault, which I brought up the question regarding the issue of a Drivers license after I turned 18 in 2007. She looked stunned and had to ask again. I told her, why was I given a drivers license in the first place when I already had a Bench warrant as a juvenile to begin with. She said that I was lucky to get one because the person didn't check my juvenile record, which now I have to take care of if I want to ACTUALLY possess a Drivers license in my state. I'm set on getting this bench warrant settled and question the validity of my drivers license between 2007-2013 and what will happen afterwards?
