Hello.
This is a pretty simple story with complicated issues. Ill be brief. I was born in 1983 in Los Angeles CA. My parents were hippies who objected to the SSN and birth reporting rules so they didn't register me or my sister born 2 years later (neither if us knew this fact until 2015). My mother died in 1987. I was raised by my aunt but never adopted. My father passed away in 2011. My Aunt TOLD me my social security number and I had used it as my social since I was 18. I used it to get my job, see doctors, go to college at UCLA and file taxes and get a CA Identification card. It wasn't until my wallet was stolen in December 2015 that I stated to have issues. I went to renew my CA Identification and the DMV said my SSN didn't verify and refused my replacement. So I went to the Social Security Office to get a copy of my card. They had no record of my SSN on file and said I had been suing a NEVER ISSUED SSN. They said I would have to return with my aunt, birth certificate and an ID and they would issue me a correct SSN. There was no record of my birth at the CA office of Vital Statistics but luckily I was baptized at a church and had records of my baptism as well as school records and doctors records. This combined with statements from my aunt who was present at the birth It has been enough to have a judge issue me a delayed registration of birth so I have a birth certificate. I went to the DMV and they have issued me a new CA ID but it will take 6 weeks to get in the mail. In the mean time I have the temporary paper. I went to the SSO and presented with all of this and I was told I would receive an SSN no problem. Turns out that was not correct. On Friday, 3 days after all of this was submitted I received a letter in the mail stating they could not issue me a SSN as they could not verify my identity and my citizenship. I called them and they said I could submit more evidence and they would review. This is all very very very confusing and frustraing. What can I do???
