Default Threatened for Soliciting a Minor

My question involves criminal law for the country of: England

Hi, sorry if England is outside of your knowledge base. Long story short, over the course of a few weeks I was providing financial aid to someone who posted online as a 23 year old. Today I said I couldn't give any more money for any number of reasons, to which their response was "Give me more or I'll get you for soliciting a minor, I'm 15". They're American, if that makes any difference, I don't know which state though they claim eastern. This is obviously a concern for me as my job requires a clean criminal record, no charges, no convictions. They say they know my name, and location, and the problem is it's been so long that I don't actually remember if I gave that information or not.

I'm just curious what I should likely expect. Most of me thinks it's a scare tactic to get money out of me, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't freaking out a lot inside. Any advice, even if it's to say "Yeah, you were stupid, you're screwed" would be appreciated. Anything to lead towards some level of certainty. Thanks.

Don't know how English law applies to this, but I can say that it's unlikely the authorities in either England or the US would pursue this, especially after seeing the posting history and threat. (You have kept the history and threat, right?) And of course, as long as she wasn't providing anything of a sexual nature to you in return for the money you sent her. (She wasn't, right?) And of course, as long as you weren't asking her to provide you with anything of a sexual nature. (You weren't, right?)

Stop freaking out and relax. You have fallen for a very common online extortion scheme. In your case you were sending money and when you stopped, all of a sudden she becomes 15. In most cases, it is a parent that finds out about the communications and tries to extort hush money because the daughter is only 15.

Just stop communicating with her and block her on any means of communication. In time she will just disappear.
