My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Ohio (Cleveland)

Hello,

My apartment lease is self-extending and says that a 60 days notice is required in case either tenant or landlords wants to terminate/change the lease. Otherwise, it will auto-renew.

My question is that isn't a notification of deadline (to terminate/change the lease) still required (even under self-extending lease) from the apartment building management? Such a notification of upcoming deadline is different from notice to not renew/change the lease.

In my situation, I already knew months ago that I will not be renewing (moving to different city). But I kept waiting (for no reason!) for such notification and when it didn't come, I emailed to building management myself that I will not be renewing the lease. But unfortunately, it was already less than 60days. Now they are considering that lease has auto-renewed and considering my move-out as premature termination of the auto-renewed lease (penalty of $200; I am financially responsible till it gets re-rented).

Please help...:-(
