Default Serving an Angent of Service - Business

I need to serve an Agent for Service of Process, however he's out of the country. He is part of a rather large law firm (his name is on the law firm) and many other lawyers have worked on cases involving the same defendant. Do I need to wait until he comes back? Can I serve someone in the law office? What's the best way to proceed?

    This is in California.

There are different ways to effect service of process in another country. It depends on the other country. Some have treaties with the U.S. In others you must use letters rogatory. The easiest thing to do is to enlist the service of an attorney in that country who is familiar with their laws regarding process.

I'm guessing OP means the attorney is out of the country, like on business or something, and OP needs to serve him.

Yes, it is an american company. The registered agent is on vacation. He is the owner of his own law firm. Can I just serve the secretary or another lawyer/partner/associate that works with him?
