I thought it was more polite to say that I was confused than that I thought you were.
Perhaps you were better off lying than in saying something that simply makes you look foolish.

But this was in _Berkeley_. Berkley landlord tenant law is insane. It may be the most pro-tenant jurisdiction in the world.
Here are their ordinances. You go right ahead and tell us which one says, "If your landlord tells you that he'll evict you if you don't agree to move out, it's a wrongful eviction." None of your examples come close.

And I am seeking advice here, not so much because I doubt my ability to prevail in a Berkeley landlord-tenant proceeding, but because I am struggling with depression and ill health and a collapsing business venture, and I am literally not sure I would survive another encounter with seven bright, committed, idealistic people, who I respect, but who nonetheless hate me for reasons that are delusional.
If that is true, what you need to do is consult a mental health professional, ASAP.

I always thought William Strunk was on to something when he said “If you don't know how to pronounce a word, say it loud!"

Does that mean you should have typed all of your posts in capital letters?

"I agreed to leave, but not on the demanded schedule, because I have limited means and a lot of bookcases, and it was hard to find a big enough place I could afford. In the wake of the accusations, the house (where we shared a kitchen and living room) had become an impossibly hostile environment. So I agreed to leave, but only under threat. I don't know if this constitutes eviction. There was no eviction proceeding, only a notice to quit."

From a purely lay point if view, you agreed to leave. You did it on your schedule, and I don't think a notice to quit would qualify as a credible threat. Your posts were long, were there other threats you can document?

I'm curious as to what you would hope to recover. You owed the rent, and it was paid by your security deposit. Were there other damages? Is it that you would want your security deposit returned and then you'd pay your delinquent rent?
