I live in Michigan and I moved out of a rented house on 1/14/2016. I did not provide a forwarding address because I communicate with the landlord via text and email.

My security deposit was $1300. On 3/3/2016 (59 days after move-out) the landlord sent an itemized list via email, totaling $1207.99, which I didn't respond to. He held the remaining $92.01 in anticipation for the water bill that runs from 11/5/2015 to 2/4/2016. Is that legal?

On 4/11/2016 (98 days after move-out) he sent the remaining water bill, totaling $427.91. Deducting what he held from our security deposit ($92.01), he claims I owe him $335.90.

Is the landlord entitled to compensation for the water bill 98 days after the move-out date? Keep in mind I failed to provide a forwarding address.
