My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: ny
During a party where alcohol was consumed, a tenant living on my floor (there are a total of 4 tenants under one contract) along with a guest were standing on top of a table which broke, where they instinctly reached up and pulled down a water pipe to not get hurt. This broken pipe spurted out water for an hour before the fireman could get to the water valve to shut it off. Water damage on the whole floor along with the two floors beneath us. Landlord wants to sue. Since I am a tenant but didn't directly cause the damage will I stll be liable for the guest? Will the tenant who pulled down the pipe be taking all of the blame? Will the guest be liable at all?
Recap: 4 tenants on floor. One lease signed by everyone. Incident happened in the common room kitchen shared by all tenants during a party. I did not cause the damage, but another tenant living on the floor along with a guest did. Who is at fault?
