My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: NY
This is an absurd story but here it goes. During a party, 3 people(not tenants of the house) were standing on a table and dancing to music. With water pipes above them they held on to keep there balance. As a lot of people surrounded the table and encouraging drunk behavior, the table snapped, and the pipes that the 3 people were holding were broke. Water was flooding at a very high rate for I'd say close to an hour. This was on the 3rd floor common area of an apartment complex, so it essentially ruined the whole 3rd and 2nd floor along with over a dozen rooms, and the first floor which is a restaurant was also in a pool of water. Police were trying to get statements from everyone but the party goers for the most part did no want to blame one person so we tried to say it snapped on its own during the party. The police did not buy that and eventually someone fessed up that it was 3 people but with no names. I live on that 3rd floor, and I dont have renters or any type of insurance. Damages in my opinion are in 6 figures. Police and inspectors are at the house now and won't let anyone in. So, who should be at fault? Who will be getting charged? Am I in any kind of trouble? What happens to the damaged belonging in my room? Opinions are needed!!!!
