    Default Changing a Baby's Last Name After the Mother Gave a False Name at the Hospital

    My question involves paternity law for the State of: Kentucky.my underage daughter had a baby and at the hospital gave the last name different than her own . we got his social security card with the name she gave ,but we ordered a birth certificate and put father unknown . how do we change the social and can we do tht legally ?

    You don't do anything. It is her child.

    If the name matches the birth name given there is nothing to do. The mother gets to give the child whatever name she chooses, including the surname.

    Why do you think you have a RIGHT to do any of that, you overstepping idiot? This is NOT your child. This is YOUR DAUGHTER'S CHILD. And if she wants to name her child Adolf Hitler, she can and you have no say so.

    If the goal here is to correct mom's last name on the birth certificate, as a disparity of the type you describe would not be obvious, "A change of name ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction shall be required to change the name as shown on the birth certificate, unless the registrant, parents, legal guardian, or individual responsible for filing the birth certificate presents documentation that the name was incorrectly recorded at the time of registration of the birth and meets the requirements in Section 8 of this administrative regulation." Mom can contact the Department of Vital Records to inquire about the forms and process for correcting her name without going through court, if possible under the full facts.
