With so much at steak I really hope this will be the end for you. Counseling will be a plus and the fact that you're admitting your problem is a GIANT step! Good luck!!

I really hope that I just do not have to do jail. I will loose my job and I would not come out the same person. In California would I see jail time for one count first offense misdemeaner grand theft? / I have no criminal record .

None of us can predict that. In my view your best bet is a plea bargain that your Attorney is refusing to do at this point!

This is a public website so yes the DA can access it and use the information providing they can prove who you are. We often discourage person from putting down too much personal info for various reasons that being one of them

".....at steak...." is got me hungry for a t-bone!!!

And you forgot your (famous?) by-line P...."Now go forth and sin no more."

Seriously for a moment, sounds like Fish is ready and able to turn his ways around and do what is right for not only himself, but also for his family.

At the risk of "job security"; I almost wish that shoplifters would think for a moment beforehand of the consequences involved in their chosen activity. Far too many times I've arrested 'lifters and, truth be known, the penalties they faced from the legal system paled in comparison to the penalties they faced in their personal life. Just one example in a long list......an intern looking at a very promising career in cardiovascular surgery got that all swept away by a felony shoplifting conviction........

Soups is correct your troubles are not the court system they are minor to what a felony conviction can do to your life! I strongly urge you to talk to your Attorney about a plea deal that drops charges to misdemeanor! Unless of course you feel you can fight this and win! If you lose the felony charge sticks! If you did not do this and have strong evidence to support your innocence then by all means fight it. However my personal opinion is your Attorney is milking you for money and will at some point concede and try for plea deal which DA does NOT have to accept!

Thankyou for the info. When I got the official charge in court it said misademeaner 487(a) , thats different from what the police charged me with a felony 487(a) . So it went down ? I am sure that it would have been charged as petty theft but, Kmart said the TV was $500, because I had the intent on paying for it in the beginning I remember the price was $378. As far as hurting my family and friends go-- they want to help but, earning their trust back will take alot more than just paying them back, witch I entend on doing ....
