Default Possibility of Charges After Looking at Child Porn Websites

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

Last night, I was just going around the Internet. Somehow, I got redirected to a child porn website. I didn't realize it was child porn until I accidentally pressed a link on the website. That showed a bunch of child porn images. I'm going to be honest; I was curious and looked at a few. Then, I started for about 10 minutes looking at them. I don't know why. I knew it was illegal. I closed the websites feeling really scared. I don't want to get into trouble. I have no idea how I got to them. I was looking at nothing bad in the first place. Will I get arrested for looking accidental at child porn for that long? I know my ISP probably have seen that. What should I do? Will I get arrested? This was all accidental. By the way, I'm only 14. I know that doesn't affect much. I just thought I should throw that in there.

You need to discuss this with your parents.

Ten minutes of looking at kiddie porn is *not* an accident. I have accidentally been directed to some very disgusting child porn. It took me seconds to click away from the disgusting things I've seen. I won't forget it though. Child porn is NOT ok. Talk to your parents.

Perhaps landing on the site in the first place was accidental, but continuing to click additional links for more child porn after that is not. That said, one episode of a young teen looking at this stuff for 10 minutes is not likely going to get the attention of law enforcement. In general prosecutors prefer a pattern of looking at that stuff or evidence that you are doing more than just looking at it (e.g producing or distributing it) before they put you their cross-hairs. What that means for you is that you might not face prosecution for this particular episode, but if you do more of it your chances of law enforcement coming after you will increase.

So be very careful what you access on the internet. There is a lot of great stuff out there to see, but there are also web site you (and anyone else) should avoid. Top of the list for those sites that can get you into serious trouble are child porn sites, sites related to terrorist organizations and terrorist activity, online gambling sites, prostitution sites. and sites that offer sales of illegal drugs or other illegal items like false/forged IDs, etc. Not only can you get into legal trouble with these sites, they can cost you a lot of money and expose your computer to extremely damaging viruses.
