What if they slip and fall stepping onto your porch and tear ligaments in their ankle? Is the property owner liable?
I had a pair show up after dark a few nights ago. We have a very steep driveway off a private lane. They came to a side door where the porch light was not on instead of to our front door where it was.
They only show up about once every six months. They are clean-cut guys with ties. I asked them to show me their i.d.'s. They pointed to their name tags. I said no; their identification. They did and I told them politely that they were on my property uninvited and I'd like them to leave immediately, that my own religion was a personal and private matter. They respectfully turned and started walking away and as usual they asked over their shoulder "is there anyway we could help?" I said jokingly "yes, pick up your pace." And then I told them as I always do, "guys no offense but I'm just not interested." I also always tell them to be careful out there. I have three sons in their age group and I would not want them doing that in the dark. I realize that they have good intentions but I am genuinely concerned with their safety. We have had some neighborhood mail theft recently, plus our little Post Office was broken into. I don't use a gun but some do and there could be a mishap. I think that LDS itself should set a curfew. It would be sensible.
I anticipate a reply that sarcastically chastises me that this thread is dead. Or, had I started a "new topic", a reply that says that the subject has been covered already or beat to death.
So we say so go away. How large is the "we" contingent that you are the self-deemed spokesperson for?" Who made you God?
My question is on exactly the same topic and I have not yet seen a post addressing a safety or personal liability issue. Also, the thread was not about discussion of a Fire Department; Religion has another dimension altogether.
