Default Accessing Someone's Social Media Account

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NJ

I know that any unauthorized access is a punishable crime, but realistically speaking, what is the worst that could happen if you were caught accessing (but not modifying) someone's Facebook account? Let's assume that the account you accessed belongs to someone who you don't know and lives in a completely different, far-away state.

Why are you wanting to do this?

...you do realize that inquiring about the consequences of a crime doesn't mean that you are actually planning to carry it out, right?

Hostility and sarcasm will get you absolutely nowhere with the expert volunteers here. Neither will stupidity (as in you not knowing that this is not a site for hypotheticals, it is a site for real people to get advice and information about their real legal issues). So take your hypothetical homework elsewhere.

The worst that can happen if you choose to commit a crime is that you can be prosecuted, spend thousands on lawyers, and end up having to pay fines and court assessments, restitution, and spend time behind bars.
