Exclamation Under Investigation for Multiple Shoplifting Incidents

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio

An officer contacted a person close to me and informed that a walmart store has photos of an individual stealing merchandise on 3 occassions and have photos of my license plate (license is inot in my name it is in the contacted individuals name, im assuming thats how the officer got their phone number). The officer informed her of this information, then asked her if she knew anything about this and adv her to inform me to contact him, when they informed the officer that i drive that vehicle she gave the officer my name . He then looked up my drivers license and stated to her "it looks like her". The officer informed her to have me contact him and if i contact him he will work with me to work things out but if he has to track me down basically things will be to the full extent. (keep in mind before she gave him my name all he had was a license plate number and "allegedly" photos of an individual) in a panic after speaking to her i contacted the officer(no answer). The next morning the officer called me and asked if i knew of anything of the events that took place and asked me if i could meet with him in person to verify the person in the photos if its not me. Im trying to figure out(if iam the person in the photos) what to do and how to prevent having a criminal record, being arrested ,what can happen?, etc.

1.)If i "dont" meet w/ him what can happen?
2.)Should i just leave this alone and not contact or answer his calls?
3.)Is there any posibility or any way they can take this further?
4.)If all he has is a license plate number and photos of the thefts, how can he persue me?

Do not talk to the police without an attorney present. Just ignore him. If he persists, say that you do not wish to speak without your attorney present. You should be looking for an attorney. Yes they very much can pursue you.

Although you don’t specifically admit this in your post, I will assume for my answer that you are, in fact, guilty of theft from this store on at least 3 occasions.

Any number of things CAN happen. What is most likely to happen is that the officer will continue to investigate and try to build a prosecutable case against you. He/she has your picture (that now has your name to go along with it), the license plate number of the getaway vehicle (which has now been identified as the vehicle you regularly drive), and information from the store regarding these multiple thefts. So, doesn’t seem like a whole lot left to investigate unless the cop thinks you might have accomplices in some sort of organized retail theft ring that still need to be identified.

So, in answer to your question, I would guess that what is most likely to happen is that you will either be arrested or have an arrest warrant issued. What the specific charge would be would depend on the value of the items you stole. The prosecutor may want to try to combine the total values of all the items stolen during the three incidents into a single charge rather than 3 counts of a lesser theft charge.

That depends on a lot of factors that nobody here knows. You should consult with an attorney and give him/her all the details.

Absolutely. Like I said above, it sounds to me like they have enough to arrest you right now.

“All he has”??? What MORE evidence do you really think they need to prosecute you? They have pictures (likely taken from video stills) of you committing the crime. They have the license plate number of the getaway vehicle that allowed them to track you down and identify you. If you were on the jury, wouldn’t YOU convict you?

Since you seem to indicate that it *MIGHT* actually be you that they have video of, the only way that is possible is if you did it.

That being the case, they already have what they need to issue a warrant for your arrest. You need to do nothing. The only thing that going in will do is save you the surprise from being pulled over one day, arrested, and your car towed. Perhaps you'd rather wait until that happens.

Seriously, the jig is up. They know it's you and can prove it. And you are going to be prosecuted for it.
