My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Tennessee.
This past September my husband and I agreed to let my mother come live with us, we own our home. Needless to say (and to keep this short) she hasn't physically lived here for even 3 months. She has been going back and fourth from Tennessee to Pennsylvania. This time around she has been gone since the middle of January. I feel that since she has hardly physically lived here that she abandoned our property. I could be getting this all wrong, but that's why I'm here.
To give a little back story, we never created a contract with her (mistake), she was paying three bills (utilities, phone/internet, trash), and before my husband paid the trash and internet/phone today, she owed $448 for past due and current bills. For October my husband was going to go half on them with her, he ended up paying everything in full and she never reimbursed us.
My questions are...
How long can it be considered that she abandoned the property?
How long until we can claim her possession as abandoned property as well?
If she returns to the property, do I have to let her in even though there's no contract and she hasn't been here?
I just need legal advice, I don't know what my options are.
