    Default Can an Employer Record Employees Without Their Knowledge

    My question involves civil rights in the State of: Kansas. Is it legal for an employer to record employees without their knowledge?

    Images only or audio as well. What area is involved matters as well. Whether the employee is given notice will matter as well so, was there any sort of notice provided?

    Where within the business?

    some employers have a legal right to record everything that goes on within their business, including telephone calls into and out of the business. I used to work for a business that has this authority under a national security issue. Every phone call made on a company phone was recorded. Conversations within the premise were subject to recording as well although we were given notice of the activity.

    Beyond that;

    generally they cannot record audio of a private conversation without one of the involved parties consent. If you are in a place where there is no expectation of privacy or there is no intent to keep the conversation private, audio can be recorded. Images can generally be recorded anyplace you do not have an expectation of privacy such as a restroom, bedroom, changing room, or similar areas.

    OP, remember that whatever you post here is on the internet forever. If your real name is Kellie Decker Hundley, your employer can easily find it.

    Actually unless there is notice given, an employer may NOT record everything. That is not true. Nor can they record telephone calls into and out of the business without proper notice to everyone involved.

    Of course. I was given notice at one point but my point was that everything without their premises was subject to recording; phone calls, discussions as i walked through the building; everything

    None? As in no notice?

    Then how do you know it's being done?
