Default Can You Move Out at Age Seventeen

My question involves juvenile law in the State of: New York

I am 17, I live in Medina, my boyfriend lives in Buffalo, we are expecting a kid and I'm due in October. Driving back and forwarth to buffalo is an inconvenience and there for I was wondering if I could legally move out. I live with my grandparents right now and it would just be easier to be living with him and his family for the kid.

If your legal guardian/s say you can move out, then you can move out.

Thank you, would that have to go through a court process?

No. All you need is verbal permission.

Keep in mind though that if your legal guardian changes his/her mind before you turn 18 and says you have to live somewhere other than where he/she originally permitted you to live, you will be legally obliged to go with that.

Also keep in mind that if legal guardian says no, then it's no, and you have no options whatsoever other than to stay where you are. No amount of but-what-ifs is going to change that.

If your grandparents were appointed to be your guardians by a court, they will have certain duties as a result of that appointment, and they may want or need to petition the court to modify or terminate the guardianship.

    Thank you.

What about schooling? I'd have to switch schools, my guardian would have to come up to that school I am planning to switch to right?

That is a question for your school district to decide.
