Hello, I'm 20 years old, a full time student and yesterday got caught with shoplifting.. I know it's stupid but I actually work at macy's and got caught at another macy's store.. It was my first time, and believe me I wouldn't do it again.. I just thought it would be easy considering that so many people get away with it at MY work, I thought I'd try my luck at another store.. Well obviously I didn't know what I was doing since I got caught.. Anyway, so I walk out with 4 shirts in my shopping bag when LP stopped me.. I froze for a minute, terrified of what was happening, but the LP was actually nice.. Probably cause he saw I was close to fainting.. He was smiling the whole time as if it was nothing.. So he told me to follow another girl who was inside waiting for me I guess.. So I walked with her, she asked me how old I was, and if I had ID, I told her I was 20 with an ID.. She said okay good this will be quick.. So I enter the office, they take the shirts and check my bag.. They calculated the costs and it came up to $207.. Checked for sensors and damage but these were shirts without tags.. They asked why I did it, I couldn't even say anything.. I just shook my head and looked down the whole time.. I gave this other girl my ID while the girl that walked me in called the city's police.. She told me she was checking to see if I had any warrants out for my arrest and that if I didn't, I'd be free to go. So after she checked, she told the girl that had my ID that I was clear and gave her a case number.. So she asked me to sign a civil demand sheet, and fingerprinted me on some other sheet that I didn't get to look at.. I think it was a Merchant Report.. I'm not sure.. After I signed everything, the girl gave me back my ID and a sheet with a number she told me to call if I had any questions.. Then she said I'd be getting a letter in the mail with the amount of the fine.. She said be sure to pay the fine or else Macy's will send out a court date.. She said if this ever happens again, I'll be in the system and they won't let me go on my own custody.. Instead I'll be in the custody of the police.. I nod, so she shows me the door and I'm on my way out.. Everything happened so quick, I left confused and dazed. I'm too scared to call the number so I thought I'd ask you guys some of my questions..
- I work at two jobs and I only told them about my other job, not Macy's.. Will Macy's find out about this incident? What should I do about that job?
- I'm still confused as to what's going to happen legal wise.. I wasn't given a court date at the time of the incident.. I wasn't even given a citation.. But there was a merchant report filled out and I fingerprinted something.. Yet I received no copies. Will I receive a citation in the mail? Or was I supposed to receive it right then and there? Is this considered a misdemeanor? And if so, will this show up on a background check immediately?
- I'm currently in the process of getting my Notary Public seal.. I'm supposed to get my fingerprints in tomorrow.. How is this incident going to affect my chances of getting my Notary Seal?
I guess that's it for now.. I need you're guys' help! I don't need sympathy because I know what I did was wrong, so no need to reiterate that.. I just want to know what's going to happen next since nothing was really explained to me.. Thanks everyone for reading this.. Hopefully I hear from you all soon..
