Default How to Defend Yourself and Object to Subpoenas in a Collection Lawsuit

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: MA

I am posting this on behalf of my wife..Her lawyer has filed a small claims suit against her for his legal fees which my wife claims should not have been the case as she owes him lesser and they had a meeting in which he agreed on the lesser amount albeit verbal agreement, now he has told my wife he going to subpoena her jobs and also her school records to show why he must collect his full fees. My challenge we cant afford an attorney so how do we go about the date for court appearance and counter suing for using professional expertise to deceive his client....Thank you.

For general information about procedure, read this. Your wife will want to file a timely answer to the complaint.

It's not clear why your wife's employment records would be relevant. Is it that she negotiated a discount based upon a claim of low income and inability to pay, and the lawyer has for some reason concluded that she was not honest about her income?
