Default Will a Juvenile Criminal Conviction Affect Your Becoming a Police Officer

My question involves criminal records for the state of: West Virginia
Well, when I was barely 13 I got arrested for Brandishing which is a Felony in this State, but in other states is a Class B Misdemeanor. I was given probation and my record was expunged. Will this hurt my chances of becoming a Law Enforcement Officer? Considering age, charge, etc?

I would also like to point out the "weapon" I had was an air soft gun.

Did the expungement end up restoring your right to possess a firearm?

I believe so yes, I am going into the United States Army and I haven't had them say anything to me about it.

If it did, that removes a potential barrier. Most law enforcement officers need to be able to carry a weapon. If that is not a problem then I think it is unlikely that a single incident of brandishing a weapon at age 13 will factor all that much into a decision to hire you. Kids at 13 are still pretty immature and they change a lot over the next 5-10 years. What will matter a lot more is what you’ve done since. In particular, since you are going into the military first, your military record will count for a lot more than that old incident. Work hard, serve with distinction, and learn all that you can. Each agency will make its own determination on hiring and they each have different requirements. If one agency won’t take you, perhaps another one will (assuming no new criminal convictions or other major problems, of course). Good luck in your career, wherever it takes you.

Yeah, Since that incident I have not had any run-ins with the law in any way. I am still in High School a Senior and this incident happened in Middle School. I appreciate the advice and quick response time this helps me a lot.
