    A family member of mine gets prescription pain killers monthly (narcotic painkillers). These painkillers are super hard to get now because of regulations; her doctor's even tried one that wasn't narcotic after she'd used narcotic painkillers for years and years (Obviously, it didn't work...) But those prescriptions have to be filled regularly and on time, or the doctor will figure that you don't need them and end your prescription. I had to help her fill her prescriptions one day when she was ill because she had to get them right. then. And then...I was an uninsured American for many, many years, and narcotic painkillers (I guess depending on the type) were always very affordable, even without insurance.
