Post Can You Get Your Own Health Insurance Policy Before You Turn 18

I am 17 years old living with my grandma after my adoptive mother kicked me out. I have lived there since 2 weeks before thanksgiving. I turn 18 in October and I know my insurance isn't going to be covering me after June or July. I have no knowledge about anything that has to do with health insurance or how to apply.

My mom told me that after my insurance is done covering me she said that is I am not living with her, she won't renew my coverage. So my question is, in June or July when my insurance is up, how would I go about that? I would still be 17 at that time, graduated from high school and looking to go to college in the fall.

You really should keep everything in the same thread. Your mother is free to keep her on her insurance whether you are living there or not. Frankly, if she is the custodial parent she's sort of obligated to. Other than that, you're on your own. Many colleges have a deal on health insurance for their students that you may wish to research.

Medicaid/Other resources for low income (pre-age 65) adults is here in your state: http://www.michigan.gov/mdhhs/0,5885...3754--,00.html

Op should look into the ACA website as well.

    https://www.healthcare.gov

Given he is required to be covered by mom until he is 18, if karma is alive mom will have to pay a penalty if she lets his insurance lapse.
