My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia I had a lengthy affair with someone who decided the day after I separated from my wife that she wanted to try to work things out with her husband and told me to not have any contact with her anymore. I sent her a fairly inflammatory email saying she needed to talk to me to explain things more. There were no threats of violence in this email, simply "you can't do this to me and need to talk to me about it and she doesn't have a choice not to talk to me about it". She went to the police department and filed a stalking charge and I got a call from a detective assigned to the case. He said the charge isn't on my record and is only there for protection in case I were to contact her in any way again. He said that would be a felony if I did. I have no intention of contacting her, her family or her friends but there is the potential that we could cross paths due to where we live and our kids being involved in the same sports.

My question is can this be dropped or is there a statute on this "complaint" or document? Is there a class I can take, can she drop the charge, does this expire after x number of years, etc? If there were contact would it be a felony like the detective said or would this me a misdemeanor?
