My question involves criminal law for the state of:
I got caught shoplifting up to $150.00 in California. It was stupid. I am a professional which makes it worse and I already feel extreme guilt and horrible for it. I offered to pay for the merchandise for being absent minded and for being completely irresponsible. I was taken into the back office, my picture taken and under tons of distress was forced to sign a civil demand letter. The cops were called, but I was not given a citation and my record is clean. They told me including the cops that a police report is not being filed and the cops never had me sign anything. They just checked to see if my records were clean and that was it. I was then walked out politely by the police officer and was told not to be in this situation again.
What are the chances that I'll be needing a lawyer for this and how bad am I looking at.
