Default Risk Management for Employees in a Mental Residency Program

I have recently excepted a job with a residency program for young adult with mental health issues. My position will fall in the security de-escalation staff category. I'm wondering if there are any risk management steps I need to take to protect myself. Any advice is helpful.

Are you talking about physical risk? Isn't that covered in your security training?

In a lot of these facilities, I do not see a surplus of information being provided to the employees by their employer. All I can say is, you do the research, you learn exactly what your options are to protect yourself, to control the behavior of the clients, how to deal with problems legally and to respond to threats or problems and to what extent. I actually saw a situation where juveniles in a corrections facility revolted, the employees called 911, and the local police refused to come, because the clients of the facility were already within the criminal justice system. Unfortunately all the contractors who administer these types of facilities are not terribly diligent about training and supporting their staff and if they are not, you will have to work this out for yourself.
