Default How to Get Money Back From a Girl I Met Online

My question involves criminal law for the state of: NJ

I was contacted by a girl on plentyoffish.com. I usually google a person's name before meeting up with them but I decided to meet up with her. She was normal then crazy, normal, and now a down right sociopath.

I knew her since April. It was kind of normal then straight down hill.

She already owes me money but it appears to be a scam. I thought about breaking up with her but if I do how would she pay me back? So, I offered to help her find a job and everything. Instead she ends up owing me more money. I wanted to talk and reason with her because I didn't want to make this a legal matter.

Yesterday she was screaming like a lunatic. She tells me she needs more money and I tell her I'm fed up with this nonsense. Turns out she had a fine and waited till I was there in person to tell me about it. I told her I'll think about and I had no idea, how do I get this crazy girl out of my car?

So, she does something that I couldn't believe and still don't. As I was driving on the highway she physically lunges at me. I couldn't see the road and I begain swerving between two lanes. She's searching the breast pocket of my jacket to take my wallet. I grab her hand and the car continues to swerve. I put my hand back at the wheel to avoid an accident. I almost hit someone. She takes all the money I had and threw the wallet back at me. Shoves the money in her bra and calls me a jerk.

This happens right before this exit and I ended up at some random street corner. She gives the money to this shady guy who drives off. And now? She's acting full blown crazy. I have to get out of here but this is my car and all her stuff is in here what do I do? What do I do? I do not want anything to do with this pyscho. Then she tells me she is gonna finally introduce me to her friend. I don't know who he is but I don't want to know this person. I think she is gonna do something worse to me.

So, I ditched her. She deserves worse. I go straight to the police I'm not dealing with this girl. They tell me due to juristiction I had to go to NJ State Police. And well.... They aren't helpful at all. But they did have a point. They all think she's scamming me. My phone rang and one of the officers answers. She's on the line and tells the police that I already agreed to loan the money and that she is paying me back next week.

Thank is a lie. Everything she said is a lie. I tell the cop how she lunge at me for my wallet. Instead they told me to file small claims and ask if I was drinking. The cops said because I know her and offered her money serveal times that this is a civil matter. So unreal.

Now she's making fun of me via text calling me a lowlife. claims she never took my wallet. I recorded our conversation to prove she took it.

So, my question, how come this isn't enough to make this a criminal matter?

Honestly? Because it doesn't rise to the level where the DA wants to get involved. You don't have proof of any sort of physical altercation, so there isn't a whole lot they can actually do.

I have an audio recording? Shouldn't that be enough?
"That's my wallet what are you doing I can't see the road"
"I need that money I am not going back to jail again. You can have your stupid wallet after I get the money I need it!!! I NEED IT!!!!!!!"
"You are going to make us crash!!!!"
    Continue swerving.

    Here's my advice:

1 - Kiss your money goodbye and forget about it. You'll never see a nickel of it. Trust me on that.
    2 - Block her calls.
    3 - Block her texts.
    4 - Block her emails.
5 - NEVER have anything to do with her again.

Do ANYTHING except 1 through 5 and you'll be a bigger idiot than you've already been.

    EXCELLENT advice.

OP - print this out. Tape it to your forehead, fridge, bathroom mirror. Do it.

She's the one that lied and cheat and took from me. She's in the wrong. True I never should of been with her to begin with. I'm ignoring her text and I doubt she would call. I've already blocked her and I'm sure she done the same.

I'm not going to see her again unless it is in court. But she does have a real job coming up. What's wrong suing and collecting what is owed? I didn't ask for her to take from me.

But.... I guess I just have to accept things.

    Do what you want.

Just don't come back whining when you find yourself being harassed even moreso after you find out that you can't find her to have her wages garnished to add insult to injury.

    Here's what's wrong with that:

SHE STAYS IN YOUR LIFE FOR MANY, MANY MONTHS TO COME.

I was thinking of changing my number. I have the contact information and address of some of her family members. She gave me her mother number and I spoke to her once. I was under the impression that all I have to do was contact a collection agency if I win a judgement.

But.... I guess it is a long shot still. OMG I don't want her in my life at all anymore. She lives far from me anyway. She'll never physically visit me.

Alright, I have all my answers.

I do not always agree with AJ but this time he is spot on. This is the only advice you need.
