My father owns a local furniture rental store. Around 2002 he was contacted by a company that wanted to sell a membership. With this membership he would receive whole sale prices on furniture.
He used his credit card for year membership fee of $2,912.40 because the company refused checks or money orders. Upon returning home - and reading small print he soon found that it would cost more for the merchandise and he had no voice when the items would be delivered. It could take up to 3 months for delivery. He tried to cancel out the charge on his credit card and was unable. He never received any product from the company. Because the company was located out of Ohio - he was unable to pursue legal actions. This ruined his credit.
Since then, the credit card has sold his “collection dept” to over 5 different companies. What can be done to stop the harassment?
