Marijuana Possession Trouble

i live in new jersey and my younger brother who is 17 was caught in a car with his friend smoking Marijuana the police called my house and i was the one who answered, i am 19 so i was able to pick him up. the police said he would get something sent in the mail, would have a court date, and also be fined.
now im torn between telling my parents or not. i was if i am able to bring my brother to the court date without the need of my parents. this would kill them if they new. please help. im torn

Is this charged as a juvenile offense, or an adult offense? I believe New Jersey still charges 17-year-olds as juveniles, but many states treat 17-year-olds as adults.
