Default 14 year-old debt and the statute of limitations

We received a letter today from a company that says my husband owes for a phone bill from 1994! From what I understand the statue of limitations for california is only six years so they can't sue us for the debt, correct? What I am curious about is can they still report this to our credit report. I don't even know how to prove it wasn't ours considering how long ago this was! What do you think?

Default Re: 14 years? statue of limitations

if the account went delinquent in 1994 they can no longer legally list it on your credit report. CA SOL appears to be 4 years, so assuming you didn't do anything to reset or toll the SOL, you should be good.
