The GM runs the camera from my shift and says he seen me pick up an envelope and then set it back inside the drawer , and he assumed that was the undropped deposit . Like I told him if I did pick it up and sit if back down, it was because it was a plain , unfilled out and empty . Now he is accusing me of stealing the deposit that should have been dropped by the two previous shifts and asked me to pay it back or he was going to prosecute . I told him do whatever he needs to because I did not see the deposit nor did l take it . Should I get a lawyer and when the police come talk to me should I answer anything or request counsel right off back since I am being accused ?
If and when the police come, don't say anything, request to talk to your lawyer. You don't need an attorney yet, since it is entirely possible this will work itself out internally at the hotel, however it would not hurt to do some research, and find a phone number for an attorney now so you are prepared should you need one. Don't offer alternative explanations to what the manager is seeing on camera, don't speculate about what may have happened. If you are asked a question directly then answer honestly, but don't speculate or play games with a manager trying to play detective. If the police are called, then get a lawyer, and talk only to the lawyer.
