Default Re: Ohio Civil Rights Being Violated

While I agree with above ...and bar probably has right to not serve 21-25 ...you might also check your states liquor license laws ...they sometimes can get darn quirky . I'm in PA and PA is about as quirky as it gets. One of my attorney friends went thru the roof when a vendor refused sale of a six pack absent a valid photo ID and vendor rejected a military photo ID ., retired status ....the guy is 69 , same attorney pointed out that in neighbor state a big box club store cannot restrict beverage sales to just members .. store has a open entrance to that area now...and in PA there is apparently a case underway about restricting sales to people wo photo ID if Thier religious views prohibit photos . But nothing I know as to 21-25....want to bet that it's a double standard for good looking females 21-25 ..but such is life...

I'm not sure age 21-25 gets any protection ...but with super quirky liquor laws it pays to check...or.

Simply vote with your feet and patronize some other place??.

As an Ohio DI ivil rights issue, it's least this far it's unclear ...
    "
    (G) For any proprietor or any employee, keeper, or manager of a place of public accommodation to deny to any person, except for reasons applicable alike to all persons regardless of race, color, religion, sex, military status, national origin, disability, age, or ancestry, the full enjoyment of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, or privileges of the place of public accommodation. "

OH does not seem to address just age 40+ in that body of law..

You did not read the entire law. You cited ORC § 4112.02(G) which defines what constitutes illegal discrimination for places of public accommodation under Ohio law. But you failed to look at ORC § 4112.01(A)(14), which defines what the term “age” means for purposes of Chapter 4112 of the Ohio statutes (and therefore includes §4112.02(G)). It states: “Except as otherwise provided in section 4112.021 of the Revised Code, ‘age’ means at least forty years old.” ORC § 4112.021 refers to granting credit by lenders (requiring lenders not to discriminate based on age if the borrower is at least age 18) and thus has no application to the OP’s question. The bottom line is that what I said before is correct: a place of public accommodation in Ohio cannot discriminate based on age if the person is at least age 40. It is not illegal for a place of public accommodation to discriminate against a person because of age for being under age 25.

PA is indeed a quirky state in a number of ways (one reason why I left that state) but you should know by now that what your state does does not mean much any place else. Muddling this thread with what the rules in PA might be isn’t going to help the OP.
