I've been reading alot of the posts on this site and wanted some advice concerning being served by a sheriff for a credit card account that I default on in 2004. The letter indicated that I needed to either pay $2300 to the collection atty office on behalf of the original creditor or answer to the lawsuit within 10 days of receipt. Anyway, I believe my official 10 days have now expired, as it was served on Dec. 20, 2006. My main concern is that I'm not working, and don't have the money to settle this debt, not sure how to approach the attorney handling this debt to make any type of arrangements. I'm afraid of what a default judgement would mean, as the attorney that I sought legal counsel from, only wanted to assist with bankruptcy and I'm not sure thats what I want to do. Also, my main fear is since I don't currently have a job, if a default judgment were to occur, would that mean my bank accounts would be garnished? Any good advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
