Default Removing Surveillance Devices Placed by the FBI

Assume that someone has discovered sound surveillance devices installed in his home. Assume that said individual has reason to believe that those devices were placed by a Federal agency. It is not known if that agency had a court order authorizing the placement.

    Given the above facts:

    1. Is it a violation to remove or disable said devices?
    2. If the devices are removed, then what is the homeowner obligated to do with them? After all, they're U.S. government property, and it might be unlawful if they were disposed of or destroyed.

Assuming the individual is not paranoid or psychotic, in which case he should be discussing the surveillance devices with his psychiatrist, he should be discussing the surveillance devices with his federal criminal defense lawyer.

But what if the CIA gets involved?

What you do is you look at the surveillance devices. If they say "Property of the FBI," you don't have to worry about the CIA. The CIA's devices will be labeled, "If lost, please return to Project MKUltra."
