My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
August of 2011 I was convicted of one Felony count of receiving stolen property, I was given 3 years probation and 129 days work release but due to health issues I had to do my time in County. Shortly after my release from jail, I left the state of California because I got married, and both my husband and I thought it best to leave the state to obtain better jobs, because California's economy was so shot that it was hard enough to find a job with out a felony just imagine with one! Nevertheless, to make a long story short. Shortly before I was to check in with my Probation Officer, I called in and told her I was not in the state any longer and that I had gotten married and had gained employment in Texas.
Here I am 3 years later, I have a bench warrant and they have added $10,000 to the fee's I had agreed to pay. I want to get the warrant released, I want to get the fee's reduced, and see if I can bring my felony down to a misdemeanor, but I do not have the money to sign on an attorney, I was wondering if there would be a possible way of my doing this for myself with out having to go back to California, and risking more jail time. I don't want to jeopardize what I have accomplished here, nor do I want to displace my family once again. What are my options? I'm tired of having this hanging over me and afraid of even to drive in fear that I may get pulled over for a minor traffic violation and then end up arrested for this.
